New York, New York
Hello, I’m here in one of the biggest and best cities in the whole world! NEW YORK CITY! I’ve been here for about 24 hours now and it’s already been an adventure.
It started out on the plane with the woman who sat next to me. We were both dressed exactly the same (skinny jeans, purple hoodies, boots) and obviously we had to talk to each other. It turns out she lived in NYC (64th and 10th to be exact) and that we had a ton in common! She handed me 2 VIP passes for some club, and offered to ride with me into the city. We both decided to split the cab into the city and once we landed, away we went.
Our cab driver was from Bangladesh, and was absolutely hilarious. Since I’m staying downtown (close to Brooklyn) at 80 Lafayette St. he dropped me off first. Let me just say that because I’m close to Brooklyn I’m also close to China Town (2 blocks above)…which is so amazing! Literally everything is in Chinese, it’s like a foreign country.
After settling in and dropping off my bags, I set off to explore. My friend and I went up to Broadway for some ice-cream and then over a few blocks for some awesome pizza. 2 slices and a coke for $2.75, and it was the best/ biggest pizza I’ve ever had. We then went over to NYU campus and the Tisch school to check out a camera for her art show.
The art show was a subway ride away in Chelsea and just so happened to be Fountain Art, which is a super big Indie/Graffiti Art show that features alot of artists from Brooklyn and some crazy performance artists. And although I took a cab back early, it was still pretty legit.
Taking a cab and finding my way back was a whole different story entirely. I walked from the Chelsea piers (11th and 24th) all the way back to 20th and 8th, which doesn’t sound like very far but it really is. From there I managed to wrangle a cab and head back downtown (which sucked $20 from me)
Today it’s raining so it’s not as eventful. I’m not going back to the art show and my ID is downstairs so I’m waiting here until 6ish when Meagan gets back, but after that I imagine we’ll be tourist-y and go do some night sight seeing. Afterall, it’s great being in the city that never sleeps.
